Greg Baxter brings a lifelong commitment to the outdoors, service, and sustainability to his role as Executive Director of SCHI. He received a Geography degree with an emphasis on Recreation and Tourism from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, and began his career through two AmeriCorps terms in the Pacific Northwest, where he developed a strong foundation in service and conservation work.
Greg has worked with multiple conservation organizations, including the Pacific Crest Trail Association and Conservation Legacy, and later pursued work in the sustainable energy sector. Across these experiences, a consistent thread has guided his work: a deep belief in conservation, responsible land use, and expanding access to the outdoors in thoughtful ways.
An avid outdoor enthusiast, Greg spends his time rock climbing, hiking, rafting, and skiing with friends and family. Now based in Salida, Colorado, he founded SCHI as a way to bring together the things he cares most about—community, conservation, and meaningful outdoor experiences.
As a father of two young daughters, Greg is especially motivated to create opportunities for families to access spaces that feel remote, restorative, and accessible. SCHI reflects both a professional vision and a personal one: building something that future generations can experience and steward.
