Julie Mach

Board President

Julie Mach is a long-time Chaffee County resident with a deep commitment to sustainability, community, and responsible outdoor recreation. She currently serves as a Regional Sustainability Contractor in Chaffee County and is the founder and owner of Elements Mountain Compost, a business focused on reducing waste and building community-centered solutions around composting and environmental stewardship.

Julie began her career in service as an AmeriCorps member with Southwest Conservation Corps, where she developed a strong foundation in conservation and public lands work. She went on to serve as Chief Conservation Officer at Colorado Mountain Club for nearly a decade, leading initiatives that advanced stewardship, education, and access across Colorado’s outdoor spaces.

An avid outdoor athlete, Julie is a five-time winner of Pole Pedal Paddle, reflecting her deep connection to the region and its landscapes. Her work and personal pursuits are grounded in a strong belief in “use less, save the planet,” with responsible recreation serving as a core value.

Julie brings a systems-level understanding of sustainability, a strong network across conservation and recreation communities, and a deep commitment to community-driven solutions to her role as a SCHI Hut Board Member.
